• Artifact 1 - Domain 1 - Component 1e - Designing Coherent Instruction (Lesson and Unit Structure)
  • Description: This artifact provides where I began with my lesson planning and the knowledge that I still needed to comprehend and come by during my education courses. This lesson although it is coherent and easily understandable I felt it left out key details.

Description of Classroom: I feel that I could have been more detailed about what types of students I could possibly have worked with during my lesson. I felt that it was too vague and did not include all the diverse learning styles that are actually in the classroom today. This was one of my very first lesson plans I ever submitted in my journey through my NSC course work. I could have add more diverse learning styles for example talking about how many higher achieving students (i.e. GATE students) or how many resource (i.e. Special Education students would be in the classroom
Background Knowledge: This particular section was hard for me because I was trying to think of what would I have provide the students with before they started this actual lesson. I felt like in this initial lesson I provided little background knowledge for the format. I should have added more detail to what the students were actually learning about and providing key components.
Content/Language Objectives: “Students will be questioning an individual who has lived through being in a prisoner of war camp...” – Looking at this I see my vagueness in all its glory. What I feel like I could have improved on is providing specific questions and details the students should be asking the volunteer that would be coming into our class.I explain in this section that they will be able to vocalize their opinions to the students (but I didn’t add how they would actually vocalize their feelings and expressions…) I also provided written paragraph on how after hearing the story of the prisoner made them feel.
Nevada Standards: These are pretty self explanatory, but I would need to adjust them and correlate them with my content and language objectives. Make them so they coincide with the common core standards.
Key vocabulary: These are essential words that need to be addressed in the lesson before the students begin their assignment. I don’t think I utilized them enough in my lesson. They need to know these words to establish the correct knowledge of the content.
